Why was it the most famous case?
The Lester Gillis case is the most famous case because he killed three cops/ FBI agents. Not a lot of people back then killed cops, especially more than one. He was also public enemy number one for a few months in Chicago. This meant that most of the time and effort of the Chicago police was put into finding and punishing Lester Gillis. He alluded the FBI for years since he broke out of jail in 1932. It took the Chicago police and the FBI about two years to close the case against Lester Gillis. In the 1930s he was amongst the most notorious bank robbers in America. He is also known very well because he was young when he first started to commit these crimes.
